Manchester United Transfer News: Mourinho turns a keen eye on Liverpool target Nabil Fekir

Premier League heavyweights Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Lyon sensation Nabil Fekir, claims the Manchester Evening News.

The 24-year-old was reportedly close to a switch to Liverpool earlier and a number of journalists had already claimed that the deal was as good as done. Social media was in fact flooded with picture of Fekir in the Liverpool red.

The deal, however, has reportedly collapsed due to the English outfit's failure to match Lyon's asking price for the Frenchman. Complications in the player's medical history was also one of the reasons why the move was deemed to have fallen through.

While Liverpool might have stepped away from their pursuit, Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has hinted that Fekir could still leave the French club after returning from the World Cup, albeit to a different destination.

Aulas in Conversation with Mourinho

'I was with Jose Mourinho the other day. We had long discussions,” Aulas told beIN Sports.

'Personally, I am no longer in discussions with Liverpool. At the moment, we are waiting for France and Nabil to have a fantastic World Cup.

“It was expected at a certain point for him to go to Liverpool. I gave the green light. It did not happen because things were dragged out too long.”

Jose Mourinho is rumoured to be on the hunt for a new playmaker in the middle of the park. With Marouane Fellaini likely to depart and Michael Carrick set to retire, the Portuguese would be looking to add more depth to the centre of the part if they are to seriously challenge for the title.

Fekir has become one of the hottest prospects in recent times and that reputation further enhanced by his performances last season. The forward notched up 25 goals and nine assists in 44 games in all competitions last season and seems to have done enough to fit the bill for a move away from the Ligue 1.

President Aulas is expected to ask over £60 million in any deal that sees the 25-year-old part from the Groupama Stadium.
