Jose Mourinho keen on signing Jordi Alba

Manchester United have been extremely lethargic in the transfer window thus far much to Jose Mourinho’s dismay, but all that looks set to change as Deadline Day approaches. Rumours have emerged that the United manager is keen on making a move for Barcelona left back Jordi Alba. The Red Devils failed in their pursuit of Danny Rose of Tottenham and Alex Sandro of Juventus earlier this summer, and in a last-ditch attempt to save face and maybe win over some fans who have expressed their anger with the club’s transfer activity, have set their sights on Alba.
Mourinho does not trust the defenders he has at his disposal currently. Marcos Rojo looks far from capable at the left back position and Luke Shaw is not in the manager’s good books although he appears to be determined to stay at the club and fight for a spot. However, Jose does not seem to be too convinced with Shaw’s ability – or lack thereof – and according to Daily Star, is plotting a swoop for Barcelona’s Spanish full back.
The Catalans are likely to play hardball though as they just offloaded backup left back Lucas Digne to Everton.

It has also been reported that the main reason Mourinho is considering a move for Alba is that the 29-year-old played under Pep Guardiola at Barcelona for a few seasons and by signing him, he would get one over on the Manchester City manager. United have under 24 hours to agree a fee with Barcelona and then personal terms with the player himself; all signs that point to a deal that is unlikely to come to fruition.
Jose is also on the lookout for a centreback. Bids for Harry Maguire and Yerry Mina have been rebuffed and they do not seem to be making too much progress on the Toby Alderweireld front. It’s set to be a frantic Deadline Day for United who need at least a couple more top-quality signings to be able to compete for the title this season.
