Former Real Madrid manager wants to replace Jose Mourinho at Manchester United

If the reports by L'Equipe are to be believed, former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has his heart set on a move to the Premier League as his next destination. The 46-year-old is reportedly interested in succeeding Jose Mourinho as the next man to ascend the hot seat as the new Red Devils boss.

Zinedine Zidane left Real Madrid just 5 days after winning the third consecutive Champions League title back in May. He also won the La Liga title, two Club World Cups, two UEFA Super Cups and the Spanish Cup during his two-and-a-half year tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Current United boss Jose Mourinho has invited criticism after Manchester United's intermittent displays in the Premier League and the Champions League, eventually finishing a trophyless season with an FA Cup final loss at the hands of Chelsea last season. The Portuguese gaffer has also failed to convince the United faithful with the defensive style of play he has stuck with at the club.

Adding to his miseries, he is under pressure to win silverware this season after getting embroiled in arguments with the club officials over an unconvincing transfer window.

Mourinho has had a difference of opinion with United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward over the club's failure to sign an experienced central defender this summer. The Red Devils tried to reinforce their backline by targetting Toby Alderweireld, Jerome Boateng, Diego Godin and Harry Maguire this summer but were rejected on all fronts.

Mourinho was also open to the sale of contract-rebel Anthony Martial while Woodward insisted on holding on to him.

Zinedine Zidane is said to be monitoring Jose Mourinho's position at Old Trafford after having been on the lookout for a job since leaving Real Madrid. It is interesting to see if the English outfit offers the Frenchman a chance to replace his Portuguese counterpart at the Bernabeu.
