The FIFA Club World Cup 2019 is an upcoming football tournament which is scheduled to start from 11th December 2019 and will end on 21st December 2019 in Qatar. It will be the 16th edition of the FIFA Club World Cup, a FIFA-organised international club football tournament between the winners of the 6 continental confederations, as well as the host nation’s league Champion. The tournament is being held for the first time in Doha, Qatar. Qatar was appointed as the host for the 2019 and 2020 tournaments on 3rd June 2019, serving as test events ahead of their hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

There will be 7 major clubs competing at the 2019 FIFA World Cup 2019 and they have already released their 23-members squads. Football enthusiasts in Qatar, the host nation, are awaiting a glimpse of the very best teams and players from Europe, Asia and Africa. The tournament will witness participation from 161 players hailing from 32 global countries.

Let’s have a look at the teams for 2019 FIFA Club World Cup

  1. Al Sadd: Al Sadd is the representative of Qatar, the host nation and topped the Qatar Stars League edition for 2018-19, winning the crown with a powerful 7-2 victory over Al Ahli. This will be their second appearance at the mega tournament after they came third in the year 2011.
  2. Esperance Sportive de Tunis: The representative nation from Africa, Esperance Sportive de Tunis won the two-tier final versus Wydad Casablance, taking them into the list of teams for this mega tournament.
  3. Al Hilal: Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal will be representing Asia at the tournament and qualified after their 3-0 aggregate victory over Urawa Red Diamonds from Japan in the AFC Champions League.
  4. Liverpool: Liverpool earned a much needed comeback into the FIFA Club World Cup after trouncing Tottenham Hotspur by 2-0 in the UEFA Champions League final this year. This will be their second stint in the tournament and they last took part in the year 2005. Liverpool FC will be the European representative.
  5. Monterrey: Monterrey is the representative for North, Central America and Caribbean and qualified for FIFA Club World Cup on the 1st of May, having won 2-1 on aggregate versus Tigres UANL, their rivals from Mexico. This will be their fouth finals stint, similar to Pachuca’s Concacaf record.
  6. Hienghene Sport: The Oceania representative, the club won 1-0 over the New Caledonians AS Magenta on May 11th this year, to seal their spot. They will be the first Pacific nation team to take part in the event.
  7. Flamengo: The South American representative Flamengo is another illustrious club that qualified after defeating River Plate by a 2-1 margin at Lima in Peru in the Copa Libertadores final. This helped seal their spot at the FIFA Club World Cup this year.

FIFA Club World Cup 2019 Venues

FIFA announced the 3 venues for the tournament, along with the match schedule, on 30 September 2019. All the stadiums are located in Doha.

The venues designated for the tournaments are Khalifa International Stadium and Jassim bin Hamad Stadium. Both the semifinals, third place playoff and the final will be played at the Khalifa International Stadium.
