Chelsea make Robert Lewandowski their ‘top target’ – Reports

After failing in his pursuit of Gonzalo Higuain, new Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has set his sights on Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski. Chelsea are in dire need of attacking reinforcements with the imminent departures of Willian and Eden Hazard coupled with the woeful form of Alvaro Morata, and are looking to begin negotiations with Bayern, who value the Polish striker at around £80 million.

Lewandowski has, for quite a while, expressed his desire to move away from Bayern and the Premier League, it would seem, is the ideal destination for the 29-year-old.

However, Niko Kovac rubbished rumours of a possible exit, stating, “There’s nothing new with Robert. It’s clear that he will not leave the club this summer, because we have a top striker and certainly do not want to give him away. It’s true that Lewandowski is flirting with a move. But what he wants is one thing and what we want is another. We’re Bayern, we have a top striker, and we won’t listen to people from the outside telling us what to do.”

Lewandowski was recently linked with a move to Real Madrid as well, but the Spanish club seem to have their hands full with the whole Willian, Eden Hazard, Thibaut Courtois saga and have not yet expressed their interest in the striker.

The 29-year-old has netted 106 times in 126 appearances for Bayern ever since his move from rivals Dortmund four years ago and is widely considered the top striker in world football at present. With the transfer window for Premier League clubs ending in under 10 days, Chelsea would need to move quickly if they are to lure the striker to England.

Lewandowski has three years left on his current contract and Bayern are under no pressure to sell him at the moment. However, if his heart is indeed set on an exit, it would be unwise for Kovac and Bayern to deny him a dream move to the Premier League.
