Chelsea boss Antonio Conte boosted by win over West Brom as Blues sack claims subside

CHELSEA boss Antonio Conte has dismissed speculation about his future after the Blues picked up a convincing 3-0 win against West Brom at Stamford Bridge.

Antonio Conte has been under pressure this month following shock defeats against Bournemouth and Watford.

The Italian made it clear he was feeling the heat and issued a desperate plea to the Chelsea board for a vote of confidence last week.

It never came and it looked as if Roman Abramovich would soon be wielding the axe if a result was not picked up against West Brom.

But luckily for Conte, the Blues swept aside Alan Pardew’s strugglers with a convincing 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge to take the weight off his shoulders.

And the 48-year-old was delighted with the result and heaped praise on his players for the confident and assured performance.

I think tonight was very important for us to get three points and win the game, especially for confidence,” Conte told Sky Sports.

“When you lose in a bad way two games, the confidence goes down.

It was important for the players to have a couple of days to rest and tonight is a good win.

We started the game with not a lot of confidence and made a couple of mistakes. West Brom could have scored.

“Then I think when we scored we controlled, dominated and had many chances. It’s important to go through this bad moment but the most important is to get the win.

Now we have the FA Cup on Friday and want to go through to the next round, then Barcelona. It will be important to find the right confidence.

And Conte was adamant the speculation about his future at Chelsea would begin to disappear after a few similar results to the victory over West Brom.

“We are getting used to the speculation. My players know very well what our work is and what we have to do,” he added.

“For sure we are going to try to fight against this speculation. There is only one way, to win and play good football.

“I think until the end we continue to live with this speculation. For me it is not important.

And Eden Hazard was in an equally bullish mood after his two goals against the Baggies and insisted Chelsea were “back” following the result.

We showed a response and did well in front of our fans. It’s always good to play a game like this,” the Belgian said.

“Now we face Hull and Barca and we are ready.

“It’s not easy to lose two games but now we are back, we are Chelsea, the champions, we have to give everything.

Sometimes you lose. The most important thing is to be together. We worked together and talked together. Today we showed great character defensively and offensively.
