Bernard signs for Everton after rejecting Chelsea offer

Brazilian international Bernard Duarte has copleted a move to Everton and the Premier League club announced. The 25-year-old will made the switch to Everton on Deadline Day after agreeing the move on a free transfer, penning a four-year deal.
Bernard has been a subject of interest for more than one club – along with Everton, Chelsea, AC Milan, as well as Inter Milan. However, it was the Toffees who managed to land Bernard, becoming the second Brazilian to joine the Merseyside outfit after they had broken their transfer record to get hold of Richardson from Watford
At 5'5'', Bernard could be facing challenges of English football, but given that he has had a fruitful time with Shakhtar Donetsk, where he has been for the last five years, Everton would be more than happy if the deal materialises. His contract with the Ukranian club ended last season.
The left-winger also has a handful of appearances for Brazil to his name, playing 14 games and scoring a goal, also playing in the 2014 World Cup where his team reached the semi-finals.
His entry to Goodison Park will be his first assignment in English football – he started his career at Atletico Mineiro, before moving to Democrata FC on loan in 2010. The move to Ukraine transpired in 2013.

Newly appointed coach Marcos Silva has had his hands full trying to ward off interest shown by other clubs on the Brazilian, even though he is seemingly eyeing a centre-back to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes.
Speaking of the influence that Silva had on the deal, Bernard stated, 'I chose Everton because of all the things I’d heard about Marco Silva and because Everton is a club with a lot of tradition,’ Bernard told the club’s official website. They are historically among the four most successful clubs in England and when I found out about the club and what the manager wanted from me, I was happy.
'That’s really why I made the choice – because of the confidence both the manager and the club showed in me.'
Asked specifically about his chat with Silva, he continued: 'I did not need a lot of convincing. Everton is a great club with a great tradition and with all of these factors in place, it was my choice.
'The manager made me feel confident I wanted to play here because of what he’s done in the past. He is a great coach, he has gone great things. And Everton is a club with a great structure.
'Marco’s words helped me a lot because having a coach who believes in his ideas is important. But I was also convinced Everton could improve me and that I would be able to show my best as a player here.'
Capable of essaying multiple roles on the field, Bernard was already identified as a hot target before Silva had his eyes on him – Chelsea and West Ham were in pursuit of the 25-year-old, the latter having initially dropped out after hearing a contract request of £200,000-per-week.
