Barcelona vs Real Madrid: Date and time for second El Clasico announced

The second leg of El Clasico between Real Madrid and Barcelona is set to be staged on Sunday, May 6 with an evening kick off. The date for the clash was confirmed by La Liga president Javier Tebas on Monday night.

Speaking on Cadena Ser’s El Larguero programme, he declared that the Clasico 'will be on Sunday at a quarter to nine.' No official announcement of the dates and times are yet to be made.

The second Clasico of the season, which is scheduled to be held at Camp Nou is being angled to favour the American market after the first one – which was a lunch-time kick off in December – was angled to favour viewership of the Asian market.

The 3-0 win for Barcelona over Real Madrid in the first El Clasico proved to be a pivotal point in the season so far. While the Catalans have carried the momentum and built a seven point gap at the top (14 points ahead of Real), the defending champions have found the going tough in Spain.

Whilst Zinedine Zidane insists that they still harbour hopes of catching up to Barcelona, most believe that Real’s only chance of silverware this season lies in the Champions League.

The guard of honour debate

A late meeting of the two giants in La Liga normally has a huge significance in the title run-in. However, this season might see Barcelona wrap the league title even before the two meet for the Clasico.

That will bring into the equation another interesting question over whether the Blancos will give Barcelona a guard of honour before taking to the field. The Catalans had decided against giving Real a guard of honour after the Capital side came back to Spain after being crowned as the FIFA World Club Cup champions.
