Barcelona Told To stay Away From Wonderkid

Ajax have warned Barcelona that they will not be selling Frenkie de Jong in January. The Dutch side’s chief Marc Overmars insisted that they will rebuff any move made for the defender.

“Barcelona can return in January if they want, but no player will leave,” said Overmars while speaking to Spanish publication, AS. This comes as a surprise to all at the Catalan club as they had verbally agreed a deal for the midfielder.

Reports suggest that Barcelona stepped up their interest in the player after Tottenham made a move for the player this summer. The London side made a £45 million bid for the Dutch star but it was rejected by Ajax.

Barcelona and Tottenham are not the only clubs interested in signing the midfielder. Reports suggest that Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid, Manchester City, AS Roma and Borussia Dortmund have also registered an interest in the player.

However, it is Barcelona who have the upper hand right now. The 21-year-old star is a big fan of the Catalan side and is looking to join them later on in his career.

“Maybe someday I'll join Barcelona, but not this season. I'm staying at Ajax. I think it will be good to spend at least another full season here,” said De Jong earlier this summer.

Moreover, the Spanish side’s technical secretary, Eric Abidal has been in regular contact with the player’s representatives and is trying to persuade them to get the player to Camp Nou.

De Jong is rated as one of the best young midfielders right now, and it is not a surprise that so many clubs are after him. Barcelona are only signing players who can be at the top of their game for the next 5-6 years, and the Dutchman fits their bill perfectly.
