Barcelona News: President Bartomeu speaks on their pursuit of Manchester United star Paul Pogba
Josep Maria Bartomeu has added fuel to the Paul Pogba to Camp Nou rumours. The Barcelona president was asked if the Catalan side were interested in the World Cup winner and he said there was still time left in the window for Barcelona to do ‘more business’.
“I won’t speak of any names, we have respect for all clubs, and there are 20 days left. We’ll see which players come out. We’re focused on the League, so it’s best to ask [Eric] Abidal, [Ramon] Planes or Pep Segura about players. There’s still time to do business.” he said.
While the transfer window is shut for the Premier League clubs, others clubs around the world can still sign players. The Serie A window closes on 17th August (Friday), La Liga’s window remains open until the end of August.
Barcelona’s interest in Pogba came to light at the start of this month. The midfielder was reportedly asked to return early from his vacation by Jose Mourinho, but he refused to do so.
The Frenchman was said to be unhappy with the manager and his agent, Mino Raiola was trying to get him a move away. Juventus and Barcelona were the only clubs interested in signing him.
Raiola held several meetings with Barca, and the Catalan side also launched a bid for him. Reports suggest that it was a £45 million + Yerry Mina + Andre Gomes. The Catalan side wanted to take advantage of the Premier League side’s interest in Mina.

However, United rejected the bid straight away and made it clear that they had no plans to sell Pogba. The midfielder returned to training last week and captained the side to a 2-1 victory over Leicester City on the opening day of the Premier League 2018/19 season.
“If you’re not happy, you cannot give your best. There are things that I cannot say otherwise I will get fined,” said Pogba after the victory.
