Barcelona forward Jose Arnaiz set for a loan move to Getafe
Barcelona forward Jose Arnaiz is all set for a loan stint at Getafe. Arnaiz joined the Catalan club from La Liga side Real Valladolid last season in a deal rumoured to be around €3.4m. The 23-year-old featured for Barcelona in five Copa del Rey encounters last season, scoring three goals. A majority of his appearances, however, came for the B side who were eventually relegated from the Segunda in what proved to be quite a dismal campaign.
Arnaiz is looking for more game time at the top level and as a result was looking for a move away from the Camp Nou outfit.
“We have just closed the transfer of Jose Arnaiz, the forward from Barcelona,” Getafe president Angel Torres stated to Onda Cero’s El Transistor programme. The move is reportedly a part of the deal that saw former Getafe sports chief Ramon Planes head over to Barcelona to serve as Eric Abidal's assistant. Torres sanctioned Planes' move on the condition that he would get players in exchange.
Arnaiz is capable of playing both on the wing and through the middle and would be a great addition to a Getafe side that managed just 42 goals in the entire La Liga campaign last season. Despite just netting 42 times, they still managed a top-half finish and Arnaiz's arrival could help them push for a European spot in the coming season.
Arnaiz's only La Liga appearance till date came in Barcelona's 3-0 victory against Levante, where he replaced Sergio Busquets for the final five minutes of the game. He has scored a total of 34 goals in 113 appearances in all competition in his career thus far.
If he does manage to impress in his loan stint, he could well find himself back in favour at Barcelona and even get a shot at nailing down a first-team spot.
