Alexis Sanchez will get best from Romelu Lukaku – Wayne Rooney

Alexis Sanchez will help get the best out of Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku, United legend Wayne Rooney has said.

Lukaku and Sanchez scored as United beat Huddersfield 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday on the Chile international's home debut following his move from Arsenal.

Lukaku's form has stuttered after a blistering start to his United career, but Rooney backed Sanchez to trigger another run of goals for the Belgium international.

He told Sky Sports: 'For me, he [Sanchez] is the perfect player for Manchester United.

'He's got aggression, he's got passion, desire. You can see he's a winner. So I think that's sort of what Manchester United have lacked, players around Lukaku who are going to push him on as well and try and help him, give him a bit more freedom, score more goals.

'Sanchez will do that and they are the players they want, almost like [Carlos] Tevez when he joined Manchester United.

'Those players lift the other players and gets an extra five, 10 percent out of the players around him. I think Alexis Sanchez will do that.'

Rooney left Old Trafford to return to Everton in the summer and has scored 11 goals in 29 games at Goodison Park this season.

The 32-year-old has started to plan for a time after he hangs up his boots and said: 'I would like to go into management. I have been involved in football my whole life. That is something I know.

'I am sure I will do a lot more work on television, but ultimately I want to go into management.'

Rooney's 13 years at United produced a club record 253 goals and 12 major trophies.

He played alongside Ruud van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo, Louis Saha, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao, but said his favourite attacking partner had been Tevez.

'There was a lot of talk before he signed that we couldn't play together but we hit it off from the start and played well together,' he added.

'I would always think it was horrible for a defence when we played together.'
