Three players Chelsea could sign in January

Chelsea have recorded a fine start to the season under their new charismatic boss Maurizio Sarri. After his first competitive game ended in a defeat against Manchester City, the Italian has masterminded his team to a run of 18 games unbeaten and is the first manager to go 12 league matches without a loss in his first season in charge at the Premier League.

However, their joy could be cut short due to the ongoing FIFA investigation that would see them face a two-year transfer ban. On the back of this pressure, the board is considering a sensational set of swoops for as many as three players. In a bid to prepare for life outside the ever-buzzing transfer market, the Blues are expected to splash over £200 million in the winter transfer window.

Here are three players Chelsea would consider signing in January:

#3 Christian Pulisic

Chelsea could aim to land the USA international to Stamford Bridge in January, considering his age and attacking prowess. Having joined Borussia Dortmund at a tender age of 16, the 20-year-old has gone from strength to strength to establish himself as a first-team regular. Earlier reports suggested that the German giants were ready to cash in on his departure. However, the club has now confirmed that they are unwilling to let him go.

The youngster has already featured in over 100 matches for his side and earned 22 caps for his national team. A big money move from Chelsea could lure both him and the club to force a move to England. In addition to that, Jadon Sancho’s rise to the very top has seen Pulisic’s place in the side stumble to a notable extent. This could be another reason for a new project at West London for Christian Pulisic.

#2 Nathan Ake

Nathan Ake spent six years at Chelsea and recent rumors have reported that his former club is ready to pay a whopping fee of £40 million to bring him back to Stamford Bridge. A loan spell at Bournemouth coupled with impressive performances after a permanent switch has put many clubs on red alerts. The Dutchman has proved this season as well, that he is right up there amongst the best young defenders in the land, if not the finest of all.

For his national team too, Ake has put up consistent yet solid performances game after game and as a result, has cemented a starting spot in Ronald Koeman’s team. With the uncertain futures of Gary Cahill and Andreas Christensen and the age factor that concerns David Luiz, Maurizio Sarri might chase Nathan Ake.

#1 Alex Sandro

Well, this name has appeared quite a few times in the previous transfer windows as Chelsea continue to cast a keen eye on the Juventus full back. His consistency, ability to run with the ball, touch, attacking threat and crossing accuracy have earned him an array of plaudits in recent years. But, with the Italian powerhouse chasing Jordi Alba and Marcelo, Sandro’s place in the starting Xi could face a hit, and therefore, a switch to Chelsea would definitely turn out to be a welcome move for the Brazilian.

However, the Pensioners will have to pip the likes of Manchester City and Manchester United, who have emerged as realistic suitors in the race for his signature.
