Talking Points Of Chelsea’s Shocking Defeat To Wolves, What Went Wrong For The Blues?

Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea made the away trip to the Molineux Stadium, to face off against Wolves in the top flight of English football. Chelsea were hoping to take back all three points from this fixture, though it did not go as per their plan. What was expected to be a simple win for the Italian boss and his side, ended up becoming a 2-1 defeat for them, as they registered only their second loss of the season.

Though the Blues took the lead in the 18th minute, when Loftus Cheek’s shot was deflected into the back of the net, things did not go as per plan for them. They had a lot of chances to add to their tally, though the finishing was just not up to the mark.

Players like Willian and Alvaro Morata got quite a few excellent chances to leave their mark on the game but failed to deliver. They wasted some easy opportunities to bury the game before the home side made them pay eventually.

It was Jimenez who made it 1-1 in the 59th minute, while Jota made it 2-1, 4 minutes later. Kepa was at fault for letting the first goal in, as he could have done much better and made the save. However, he failed to do so, and it cost his team. The game was stolen from the hands of the former Napoli boss in a matter of a few minutes, and his side failed to make a comeback in the match. Here are the talking points of the game-

Loftus-Cheek should start regularly now

Another good performance for the young England international, whose shot was deflected by the Wolves’ skipper in the back of the net. He has been in really good form in recent times, and he created quite a bit of chance for his team-mates to finish off too, though they failed to get the job done. With the play that he created in the game, it should have been an easy win for his team, though the finishing really let him and Sarri down.

Poor finishing by the Chelsea forwards

It was the likes of Morata and Willian who were the main culprits up front. The duo had multiple chances to score, though they failed to do so. This really ended up costing the visitors at the end, as they let in a couple of quick goals. Had Chelsea killed off the game early, things could have been so different, and they wouldn’t have suffered their second defeat of the current league campaign.

A majority of the fans would agree now that Morata should be sold in the January transfer window. Also, though the Brazilian played better in this fixture, he needs to find a way to work on his finishing. Dropping him for a game or two may solve the problem, though the Blues will need to put up their best side against Manchester City.

Kepa error for the first Wolves goal

Chelsea fans were really happy when Kepa signed for them. However, it is a fact that he is not as good as Courtois. He has made some silly errors already this season, which has cost Chelsea. The first goal was an error on his part, and he should have saved Jimenez’s shot.

Many fans might disagree, as keepers let in goals through their legs. However, the fact is that the distance between him and the Wolves attacker was quite a bit and the shot was not that powerful. He should have kept it out.

Sarri needs to sell Morata in January

There were complaints by Chelsea fans that Morata was not being fed enough of the ball to score some weeks ago. However, the game against the Wolves was a clear answer to that question, as to “why” the wingers were playing more selfish football and ignoring him. It has been the case since the start of this campaign that the players on the wings have been trying to feed the ball at his feet and he has failed to finish off the chances created. This has not just frustrated him, but the wingers too and it seems now that his time at Stamford Bridge could be coming to an end, as the patience of the manager and the fans is running out.
