Roma thinking of taking legal action on Barcelona for Malcom intervention

Until a few days ago, AS Roma looked set on buying Malcom from Bordeaux, and had even announced through their Twitter account that the club had reached an argument with Bordeaux. However, in a sudden change of events, FC Barcelona hijacked the deal in the final few hours, and lured the Brazilian winger to them with an improved offer.

As the selling club, Bordeaux agreed to sell the player to FCB, and this comes as a huge shock for AS Roma who had already prepared for the unveiling of the player. It is reported that the club even had fans and representatives waiting in the airport for Malcom’s arrival. The winger was supposed to come to the Italian capital for medical and to agree on personal terms, and the deal was extremely close to being done.

Roma are unhappy with Bordeaux for having revealed the details of the deal, as they believe that this alerted the other clubs to come and make improved offers for the players. However, Monchi, Roma’s sporting director is looking through legal options to file a case against Bordeaux.

Monchi, Roma’s current director of football has said that they are going through legal options and might lodge a complaint over Bordeaux’s perceived wrongdoing in negotiating with Barcelona when the deal with Roma was almost finalized.

Monchi reportedly said, “We are looking at our options and seeing if we have a legal case. It is true that nothing was signed, but there are many messages with the agents and their president that are at least worth being assessed. 'It is true that, a few days ago, I was aware that a lot of squads were keen on Malcom – Barcelona among them. Because of this we got the deal agreed as quickly as we could: it was done.

'So I was very surprised when one of the representatives of the player called me to tell me that Bordeaux had withdrawn permission for the player to travel to Rome. I called Martin and he told me that an offer had come in from Barcelona that was better than ours and that if we did not raise our offer we could not have the player.

Eventually, Barcelona lured the player by offering Bordeaux a higher fee, and probably better wages to the player too. However, Malcom could have developed well enough in Roma, where he would have been surrounded with players from the same age group.

At Barcelona, there are many chances that he would be used as a squad player from the bench, and this could turn out to be disastrous for the player’s development too.

Nevertheless, this transfer would surely transform into a noteworthy saga if Roma lodge a filed complaint against Bordeaux or Barcelona.
