Liverpool have been handed a massive boost in their bid to sign Marco Asensio. The Spaniard is open to joining the Merseyside club as per reports in Marca.
The Reds saw their opening offer for rejected by Real Madrid according to reports in Spain, but they have not given up on signing him. Mundo Deportivo claims that if Liverpool increase their initial €180 million offer, they have a good chance of signing him.
Asensio is Liverpool's 'Plan B' after their move for Nabil Fekir came to an end. Liverpool tried to lower the price for the Frenchman as per a few reports, and Lyon pulled out of the deal. Other reports suggest that it was his long-standing knee issue that blocked the move.
The issue for Liverpool right now is that Asensio is under contract at the Bernabeu until 2023 and has a €700m release clause. They cannot afford to activate that release clause and should negotiate a deal with Real Madrid.
Asensio did not close the doors completely when asked about a possible move to Anfield. “Liverpool? When the World Cup is over, we’ll talk about that sort of thing; now I’m focused on selection for Spain,” he said.
A move to Anfield will give the 22-year-old a significant increase in his wages and see him become the most expensive Spaniard ever! Chelsea and Manchester United have also been linked with him.
However, with Florentino Perez open to selling him to afford Neymar, PSG might show interest in him too. The PSG star is said to be Real Madrid's top target this summer and offering Asensio in the deal will reduce the asking price from €300 million.
