Real Madrid News: Cristiano Ronaldo out of La Liga game against Espanyol

Real Madrid will face Epanyol on Tuesday in a La Liga clash without their talisman Cristiano Ronaldo. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been on a hot streak of late – scoring 12 goals in his past seven appearances.

The Portuguese was also axed for Madrid’s clash against Leganes last week but was back to face Alaves last weekend – scoring two goals to secure a 4-0 win.

At 33-year-old, Zinedine Zidane knows that Ronaldo’s body will need resting for him to be at his best at the crucial junctures of the season.

A few weeks back the Frenchman stated after their 5-3 win over Betis, 'I don't know how many years he went without stopping,' the Madrid boss said this week.

'But now the moment has come where it's necessary for him and for everyone for him to not play from time to time.'

And now, Zidane has put his plan into effect.

Ronaldo currently sits on 299 La Liga goals and the trip to Espanyol would have been the perfect opportunity for him to claim yet another career record.

The superstar had a great opportunity to claim his 300th La Liga goal alongside his 50th career hat-trick in the last game against Alaves. However, Ronaldo, who has been tagged as a ‘selfish’ player time by many handed over a penalty to Karim Benzema – who was booed in the game by his own supporters.

Marco Asensio is expected to fill the void for the Blancos while the game will also the return of Sergio Ramos from suspension.

With PSG losing Neymar to injury in Ligue 1 ahead of their crucial encounter against Real, this might well to a wise decision by Zidane to avoid a similar fate for Real.
