OFFICIAL: Real Madrid set to sign right back Alvaro Odriozola in a €40 million from Real Sociedad

Real Madrid have confirmed that they have reached a deal to sign Alvaro Odriozola. The Real Sociedad defender will sign a six-year contract after he passes a medical.

Madrid have paid his release clause which is said to have been €40 million. The right-back is back in Spain after they got knocked out of the World Cup.

Julen Lopetegui is said to be the main man behind this deal. The former Spanish National team coach is a massive fan of the right-back and selected Odriozola over the likes of Sergi Roberto and Hector Bellerin for his World Cup squad.

The arrival of Odriozola will provide competition to Carvajal’s starting position. It will also see the youngster, Achraf Hakimi head out on loan.

Rumours suggest that he is likely to be on his way to Dortmund. The Moroccan full-back will join on a two-year loan. Los Blancos will then take a call on his future at the club.

Spanish reports claim that Barcelona were also interested in signing the right-back but were unable to strike a deal with Sociedad. They were not willing to activate his release clause, something Real Madrid did it with ease.

Sociedad were reluctant to sell him for anything less than €40 million. Madrid officials met with Real Sociedad president earlier this week to discuss a payment scheme for the release clause and found an agreement straight away.

The player will have an extended holiday due to his involvement with the national squad at the World Cup. He did not get to play a single minute but still is likely to be given a few days off just like his other Spanish teammates.

However, he will be called in for a medical soon and only after that, he will be presented with his contract.
