Official: Douglas Pereira moves to Turkish club to Sivasspor on a loan deal

Barcelona outcast Douglas Pereira is set to move to Turkish club Sivasspor on a season long loan deal. The Brazilian right back will be enduring his third loan spell in four seasons, as he enters the final year of his contract.

The Catalan giants signed Douglas in 2014, but the Brazilian was never met with much fanfare and support. He was always deemed surplus to requirements, and not up to the standards of other players in terms of talent.

He was signed from Sao Paulo on a five year deal, but Barcelona were instantly unimpressed with his performances. He made his La Liga debut in a goalless draw against Malaga, and was severely criticized for his poor display on the pitch. Douglas was booked in this game too, and was later limited to appear only in Copa del Rey matches.

He has appeared only eight times for Barcelona’s first team, and even went through two loan spells. The first move was to Sporting Gijon, where he underwent a decent time and even registered himself as a starting, regular player for the team.

However, the Spanish side’s relegation meant that Douglas moved away to Portuguese giants Benfica on a loan deal too. In Portugal, he appeared just five times in the league and he came back to Barcelona at the end of the last season too.

As, the right-back has entered the final year of his contract, he will now move to Turkey in search of regular playing time. Sergi Roberto and Nelson Semedo are higher up in the pecking order for right-sided fullbacks, and hence this means that there would be even lesser chances for Douglas to notch some appearances this time around.

It seems highly unlikely that Barcelona would renew his contract hereafter, and hence the loan spell at Sivasspor provides Douglas the perfect opportunity to revive his career by garnering some much-needed playing time.
