Monaco eyeing double Chelsea scoop

Ligue 1 side AS Monaco are confident of luring Chelsea midfield ace Cesc Fabregas to France this January. The Spaniard is frustrated with the lack of game time under Maurizio Sarri and has made it clear he wants to move. Fabregas has started just one Premier League game this season and his current deal is set to expire in the summer later this year.

With less than six months left on Fabregas’ contract, Monaco boss Thierry Henry is confident he can tempt his former teammate into boarding the plane to France. Monaco have had their worst start to their season and are currently placed 19th in the Ligue 1 table, desperately seeking points to stay away from the relegation zone.

While Cesc Fabregas is the top target, the Ligue 1 giants are also looking at Chelsea’s veteran defender Gary Cahill and are also exploring the opportunity to bring Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny to the club. Former Real Madrid defender Pepe who is currently a free agent after terminating his contract with Besiktas is also under their radars.

Chelsea manager Sarri has insisted that Fabregas stay at the club and if the 31-year-old leaves, he has demanded a replacement.

‘In this position, we have only Jorginho and Fabregas and it would be a very big problem to be without Cesc. I want him to stay. If Cesc will go, then I think we need to buy another player, and it’s not easy because technically Cesc is a very important player, and it’s very difficult to find in the market a player with these characteristics.’

Chelsea who are currently fourth in the Premier League table are up against Southampton in their next fixture. Fabregas is set to mix the game with a neck problem.
