Jose Mourinho is all set to reward Jesse Lingard for his consistent performances by offering him a lucrative new contract just 15 months after he signed a four-year extension. Mourinho is reportedly aware of the fact that a number of top clubs are set to come calling taking into account Lingard's performances this past season for Manchester United, and in the World Cup for England.
Lingard currently earns in the region of £75,000-a-week, but the new contract could see that rise to as much as £150,000-a-week, making him one of the highest earners at the club.
'Jesse has shown that he is a top-class performer on and off the pitch. He had a fabulous season for the club last year and has taken that form onto the international stage so far. His England showings have been brilliant and the club know he is all set to become a global star if he continues,' said a source close to the Red Devils, as quoted by the Sun.
The 25-year-old made 48 appearances for United across all competitions this past season, netting 13 times in the process, and has clearly earned Mourinho's trust.
'[Mourinho] has been great with me. He’s put that trust and faith in me to play me in big matches week-in, week-out,' Lingard had stated earlier in the season.
He has carried that form into the World Cup as well and has been one of Gareth Southgate's most important players, making 3 appearances for the Three Lions, scoring one absolute screamer against Panama, which remains England's best goal in the competition thus far.
United are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the next Premier League campaign, but despite the arrival of Fred and rumours linking the likes of Gareth Bale with the club, Lingard still has his manager's backing and is expected to play a key role for the Red Devils as they look to dethrone their rivals Manchester City.
