Manchester United in pole to sign Brazilian midfielder – Reports

Shakhtar midfielder Fred was recently tipped to join one of the Manchester clubs ahead of the next transfer window. He nearly left the Ukranian club earlier this year as both Manchester United and Manchester City showed interest in signing the 25-year-old.

The Citizens, however, drew the speculations to a close by signing Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao for a club record £57million. Fred’s representatives were still hopeful Manchester United to enter the biddings on the deadline day but things certainly did not go their way.

The Brazilian’s move to Old Trafford seems to be very much on the card now as Jose Mourinho needs to replace two midfielders in the club. Belgian midfielder Fellaini will leave the club on a free-transfer while Carrick will be retiring by the end of this season.

“Fred will leave in June. If not to Manchester City, then to Manchester United. He is ready for the best championships. In addition to being very good, Fred is very professional,” Shakhtar chief executive Sergei Palkin told Corriere dello Sport last month.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are pushing to conclude a deal for midfielder. On the other hand, Manchester City are also pursuing Napoli ace Jorginho.

Fred has made 152 appearances for the Ukranian side since joining them in 2013. The Shakhtar No. 8 has had a very good record in the UEFA Champions League too as he stands second to Andres Iniesta when it comes to success rate in dribbling.
