Manchester United eye shock move for €110M star

Jose Mourinho has set sights on signing Mauro Icardi according to reports in Ole. The Argentine striker is said to be the manager’s top target for the January Transfer Window.

Manchester United only have Romelu Lukaku right now as their out-and-out striker. They do have Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford who are fit for that position but Mourinho prefers to use them as left-wingers instead.

Icardi is seen as the ideal striker to challenge Lukaku for the starting spot and the Red Devils are keen on getting a deal done. The Inter Milan captain has a €110 million release clause on his contract right now and United will have to activate it.

The Italian side are desperately trying to avoid that situation and have offered him a new deal. Reports suggest that the 25-year-old has been given a new deal until 2023 that will see his release clause removed.

The striker has been in red-hot form for a long time now and his performances have not gone unnoticed. He scored 29 goals last season and that was the highest ever by an Inter Milan player since Antonio Angelillo in 1958/59 season!

United are not the only club interested in signing him right now. Real Madrid, Juventus, Napoli and even Chelsea have been linked with him. There were rumours of interest from Barcelona as well as they look for a long-term replacement for Luiz Suarez.

Marca claimed that Icardi was one of Florentino Perez’s top targets as a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo. However, a move did not materialize in the summer. Wanda Icardi, the player's wife and agent, claimed that the striker is happy at San Siro but is looking for a fresh challenge as well.

United are looking to offer him a ‘significant financial package’ to convince him to join them in the winter transfer window.
