Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy Undergoes Knee Surgery

Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has undergone knee surgery on Wednesday and is expected to be sidelined again for weeks. The defender underwent surgery on his left knee in Barcelona after pulling out of the France squad, Manchester City confirmed on their official website. “The 24-year-old defender attended Dr. Cugat’s clinic in Barcelona where scans revealed that surgery was required. That surgery was conducted on Wednesday evening, and everyone at Manchester City wishes Benjamin a speedy recovery”, the statement read.

Mendy also took to Twitter in his trademark humorous style telling his fans about the surgery.

The defender managed to play the complete 90 minutes of City’s 3-1 derby win over United on Sunday but was forced to withdraw from the France squad the next day.  Mendy’s injury comes in as a massive blow for Manchester City, but the sky blues have Fabian Delph to fill the void.

Mendy had earlier missed a month of footballing action with a foot injury. The defender recovered from that problem making a total of 10 appearances for City so far this season, but his new injury will force him to spend another lengthy spell on the sidelines. Defending champions Manchester City will return to Premier League action after the international break as they travel to West Ham United on November 24.

Manchester City currently are on top the league chart with 32 points after 12 matches scoring 36 goals while conceding only 5. Liverpool are their closest competition as they occupy the second spot with 30 points with Chelsea in third with 28 points.
