Man Utd news: Paul Pogba blasted by United legend over Mourinho row

Paul Pogba, the midfielder for whom Manchester United broke the transfer record in the summer of 2016 has been told to concentrate on his performances on the pitch rather than complaining about his best position on the pitch by former Manchester United skipper Roy Keane.

Keane, who had more than When asked if Mourinho should change United’s shape to get Pogba in a three-man midfield rather than a two-man pairing, Keane told ITV Sport: “I think any top player in midfield should be able to play in a two or a three.

“So the guy just needs to do better himself and focus on what the game of football is all about.”

Keane then took aim at United over their defensive problems with Ashley Young singled out.

“They’ve not sorted out the few defensive problems they have,” Keane added.

“The two centre-backs need to do better, and if you’ve got Ashley Young in your back four then you are going to struggle.”

The Frenchman has been heavily criticised for his lacklustre performances against Tottenham and Newcastle in recent weeks playing alongside former Chelsea man Nemanja Matic in the middle of the park. Matic was brought in by Mourinho in the summer in order to ease the burden on the Frenchman but things have not gotten any better for the former Juventus man.

His performances have been so appauling that Mourinho has had to substitute him in both of the games and now it is believed that Pogba feels that would be best utlised in a midfield-three with him playing on the left – similar to how he played at Juventus.

Mourinho, however, feels that Pogba should be able to aclimatise to the demands of his tactics on the pitch and fit himself anywhere needed at the centre of the park.

This, many believe has led to a confrontation between the manager and the player.
