Liverpool reach agreement for €75 million man Alisson with AS Roma
- Updated: July 18, 2018
AS Roma have accepted Liverpool's latest bid of €75 million for Alisson as per Paul Joyce. This was the second bid that the Reds had made for the highly-coveted goalkeeper after an initial €70 million bid for the Brazilian was rejected on Tuesday.
The report suggests that clubs have now reached an agreement, and the deal is set subject to personal terms and a medical. Earlier reports had suggested that Chelsea were keen on signing Alisson as well to replace Thibaut Courtois – who has budged on signing a contract extension.
However, it looks like Liverpool have acted swift and are set to secure their no. 1 goalkeeper target.
Chelsea are yet to make an offer as per reports and time is surely running out for them. Alisson reportedly spoke to the Liverpool manager, Jürgen Klopp on Tuesday.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager has assured him that he will be the #1 choice should he join them. It is claimed that Alisson now has his heart set to a move to Anfield.
The Brazilian will replace Loris Karius as Liverpool #1 – just months after he the German took over from Simon Mignolet. Both the keepers have failed to impress Klopp, and the manager is keen on solving the problematic goalkeeping situation at the club.
Alisson had joined AS Roma from Internacional in 2016 for €7.5 million. He is now set to be sold for 10x the price – just a season after becoming their #1 choice.
He spent the first season at Roma as Wojciech Szczesny’s understudy – failing to make a single league appearance. Last summer, after the former Arsenal man left for Juventus, Alisson became the first choice and helped the Italians reach the Champions League semi-finals where they were eliminated by Liverpool.
Alisson will become Klopp’s fourth signing of the summer after he completes his move. Naby Keïta from RB Leipzig, Fabinho from AS Monaco and Xherdan Shaqiri from Stoke City, are the other three signings.
