Lionel Messi tells Barcelona to sign Chelsea defender as PSG prepare huge offer – Reports

Barcelona are looking strengthen their backline for next season are in on the lookout to sign Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso on the recommendation of none other than Lionel Messi, according to a report by The Guardian. French giants Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be on the lookout for his signature as well.

The Spaniard has been one of the few bright lights in what has been a hugely disappointing second season for Antonio Conte at Stamford Bridge. However, they might have to soon part with the former Fiorentina man.

The report further suggests that the Catalans had turned a keen eye towards Bayern Munich’s David Alaba in recent days. However, on Messi’s recommendation they might go for the Spaniard who has seen his impressive performances for the Blues recognised with his first ever national team call-up.

Alonso, who had played in the Premier League previously with Bolton Wanderers and Sunderland has seen his reputation sky-rocket in the last couple of seasons – especially after starring for the Blues in Conte’s first season at the helm last year.

Lucas Digne was signed from PSG with an for him to provide Jordi Alba with competition. The Frenchman has, however, failed to make much strides at Camp Nou and the Barcelona hierrarchy is reportedly looking to find his replacement in Alonso

The star has already scored seven and assisted thrice this season – making him the first defender to be involved in 10 goals this Premier League season.

Meanwhile in Spain, media outlet Marca have reported that Ligue 1 giants are in hot pursuit of the 27-year-old and are willing to offload French international  Layvin Kurzawa to acquire his services. The report also suggests that two other Premier League also remain interested in the defender.

Chelsea might look at replacing Alonso with unsettled Manchester United left back Luke Shaw – who has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford after bust ups with manager Jose Mourinho.
