Jurgen Klopp predicts where Liverpool FC will finish this season

Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp delivers his verdict on how the race for Champions League qualification is shaping up

Jurgen Klopp has warned his Liverpool FC players that they still have a significant fight on their hands in trying to finish in the Premier League’s top four this season.

The Reds boosted their hopes of securing Champions League qualification once again on Sunday when they beat Southampton 2-0 at St Mary’s to bounce back from their 2-2 draw with Spurs last weekend.

Klopp is aiming to guide the Merseyside outfit into the top four for the second season running after they ended up in fourth spot last term and secured qualification for the Champions League this season.

The Reds are now in third place in the table and just two points behind second-placed Manchester United as the race for Champions League qualification hots up.

And although Klopp is clearly pleased with the Reds’ current position, he admits that they still have plenty of work to do if they want to finish in the top four this season.

Speaking at his post-match news conference at St Mary’s on Sunday, Klopp said: “The only thing we can do is win our games.

“A few times we will meet one of the big opponents, but not too often. You have a draw like Tottenham, you think, ‘OK, like before’ but the only thing you can do is to win your games.

“It will stay tight until the end. I am pretty sure the quality of the teams is too big.

“The interesting thing is in the last few years since I am in, in the middle end of the season a few teams had already reached their targets – to stay in the league or whatever – but I don’t think apart from Leicester and Burnley and maybe Bournemouth this morning is already fixed, so they will make the final part of the season really interesting for all the people who are not directly involved.”

Liverpool FC are now preparing for their Champions League last 16 clash against FC Porto in Portugal on Wednesday night.

The Reds are still looking for their first trophy since Klopp’s appointment at Anfield back in October 2015.
