Henrikh Mkhitaryan aims subtle dig at Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho over playing style

HENRIKH MKHITARYAN appears to have aimed a subtle dig at Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho.

The Armenian endured a tough relationship with the Red Devils boss during his time at Old Trafford.

After enjoying a strong first season in Manchester, Mkhitaryan suddenly found himself frozen out during Mourinho's second term.

The winger ended up being used as a makeweight in United's move for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez.

While Mourinho is known for his defensive tactics, Arsene Wenger's men play a more attacking brand of football.

Mourinho has been criticised for his playing style this season and Mkhitaryan is clearly now relishing playing in a side which suits his style of play.

'In the last year I played in Dortmund with [Jurgen] Klopp, Dortmund was playing very good football and I think it seems to be a bit similar comparing Arsenal to Dortmund,' he told ESPN.

'I'm very happy to be here.

'I get pleasure playing offensive football and being part of Arsenal.

'Every offensive player wants to play offensive football.

'For me as well, I always love to play offensive football, it's not easy to defend all the time.

'It's necessary to do the best for the team, but in this case, when Arsenal are playing offensive football, I'm trying to give everything I can give to the team.'

Mkhitaryan enjoyed a superb debut as Arsenal swept past a poor Everton side 5-1 earlier this month.

However, the new arrival failed to make an impact as the Gunners lost the north London derby one week later.

Wenger's men take on Ostersund in the Europa League this evening.
