Fulham complete Aleksandar Mitrovic signing

Fulham have snapped up Aleksandar Mitrovic from Newcastle United on a permanent deal. He has penned a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee. “I’m very glad and happy and proud to finally be here and officially become a Fulham player. I’m happy to the moon and back,” Mitrovic said.

Highly optimistic about the future at Craven Cottage, the forward added, “I have love for the fans. They’re amazing fans and I have a really good connection with them. This is a big club and last year we made history, we did big things, and I want to continue this. We want to keep making big things, and with all the fans behind us I think we can go far.”

Mitrovic was transferred to Fulham in the winter transfer window on a loan deal. He scored a remarkable 12 goals in 17 matches, steering the Cottagers to the Premier League.

Slavisa Jokanovic has purchased a host of high-profile players this summer, some of them being Jean Michael Seri, Andre Schurrle and Fabri.

Fulham were keen on bringing back Mtirovic since the season concluded. Although the Magpies would want him back in order to bolster their attacking options, the move did not materialise because they signed Japanese forward Yoshinori Muto from Mainz instead.

“I’m delighted to announce that Aleksandar Mitrović is back where he belongs at Fulham Football Club! We have reached an agreement to bring Mitro home,” said club owner Tony Khan.

Another reason for this permanent switch could be the fact that the 23-year-old managed to appear only on five occasions in the first half of the season for Newcastle.

Fulham begin their Premier League season at home to Crystal Palace in a game where Mitrovic is expected to start.

This is a win for both parties. On one side, the striker will play in a familiar system, a system under which he has thrived, whereas Newcastle United can raise their funds and clear up space for another signing.
