Qatar signs huge deal with England ahead of FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar

FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

Qatar might play hosts to England for a series of friendly games before the 2022 World Cup. The situation came to light after the Football Association signed memorandums of understanding with Qatar Football Association and the organisers of the tournament in the Gulf state.

The FA has had an edgy relationship with Qatar after former FA chairman Greg Dyke had sounded out his displeasure at the country winning the bid for the 2022 World Cup, calling it “worst moment in FIFA’s history”.

The relationship between the two countries have gotten better since then and Dyke’s successor, Greg Clarke was in Qatar to sign on the dotted lines of agreements that will see a focus on cooperation and sharing of expertise on football.

The two associations are exploring all opportunities to possibly stage friendlies between the two nations across all age groups.

Declaring the FA to be pleased at completing the deal, Clarke went on to say, “We have a long history of collaboration with various national associations to share knowledge and experience to support the development of football.

“For Qatar, developing the game across the country is a key objective as they approach the hosting of the Fifa World Cup in 2022.”

Accompanying Clarke was the British Ambassador to Qatar, Ajay Sharma, who said: “This will mark the beginning of even deeper cooperation between our two countries, and underlines the UK’s support for Qatar in delivering a successful World Cup 2022.”
