David Moyes delivers verdict on West Ham future

Reports suggested David Moyes may be relieved of his West Ham duties at the end of the season.

West Ham United manager David Moyes has failed to rule out leaving his post as Hammers boss at the end of the season – in his London Evening Standard column – amid reports suggesting that he will not be offered a new deal.

Multiple outlets reported that the former Manchester United and Everton boss was set to leave at the end of the season, regardless of whether he kept West Ham in the Premier League.

Moyes has a contract at the London Stadium until the end of the season but there is an option to extend such a deal, after the owners appointed the Scot back in November.

Moyes confirmed that he is happy at the London Stadium and has a long-term goal of improving fans' opinion of the club, but also stated that he understands no decision will be made on his future until the end of the season.

'On another subject, there was a suggestion this week that I will leave West Ham at the end of the season, whatever happens. In answer to that, I would say that I am really enjoying my time here — I’m smiling,' Moyes said.

'I would like us to improve the team so that the fans say, ‘Yes, I like the way they’re playing’, but it will take time. What I wanted the fans to appreciate is that we’re going in the right direction.

'We needed to work on the players’ attitude, we needed to show their determination was never in question. I want to see how all those things are at the end of the season and no decision will be made until then — or certainly until we know we are safe in the Premier League.'

Moyes has guided the Hammers away from the relegation zone up to 12th place in the Premier League table, but they are far from avoiding a relegation battle with only three points separating them from 18th-placed Stoke City.

Following a disappointing 3-1 loss to Brighton last time out, West Ham will be keen to get back to winning ways with three points over Watford at the London Stadium on Saturday.
