Daniel Sturridge compares Liverpool return to a second chance with girlfriend

Daniel Sturridge’s career at Liverpool has quite certainly derailed ever since Jurgen Klopp took over the reins of the team. However, the forward, who was on loan at West Bromwich Albion for the second half of last season is quite delighted with his return to Liverpool’s first team.

Sturridge’s injury issues have tormented his career post that brilliant 2013-14 season when he scored 21 goals in the league. Ever since then, a number of injuries coupled with a loss in pace and drop in form means that the Englishman has been unable to cement a starting spot in the team.

Moreover, Klopp prefers a more mobile, tenacious forward, someone who can press the opponent and form the first line of defence. Accordingly, Roberto Firmino replaced Sturridge in the starting lineup. Hence, the 28-years-old has endured a troublesome phase in his career, as even his loan spell at West Brom had him out injured for some part of the season.

Currently, he is back with the first-team and is looking to finally carve out a space for him in the squad. Sturridge knows that the competition for places would be difficult, and hence it is crucial that he manages to resolve his fitness issues soon enough.

Speaking to ESPN in an exclusive interview, Sturridge said, “I've never had any issues with anybody at the club. I've never had any issues with the manager, with the staff. I love it here. I love the players, but sometimes you have to do something for you.

'It's the same as, I don't know, if you've been with a woman for a long time, and then you're like, 'Man, I don't feel like it's working out anymore.' But then you go away, like, 'Me and my girl's relationship was kind of sweet still. I might have to go back there.' It's kind of like that.

The coming season presents a new challenge in front of the England international, and he would have to impress the management in order to renew his current contract, which expires in June 2019.
