Cristiano Ronaldo to Man Utd: Lionel Messi the reason Real Madrid star wants transfer

CRISTIANO RONALDO wants to rejoin Manchester United in order to usurp Lionel Messi as the world’s best-paid player, according to reports.

Real Madrid have been left reeling by the new Cristiano Ronaldo wants to quit the club.

The Portugal international wants to return to Manchester United, where he enjoyed plenty of success before moving to Spain in 2009.

Ronaldo is said to be fed up at Real after a disappointing season in which he has scored just four La Liga goals.

But the main reason why he is keen on a return to United is because he feels betrayed by Los Blancos.

That is according to Barcelona-based newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

They claim Ronaldo is still unhappy at how a tax evasion case last summer was handled by the club.

But even worse is his disappointment that Real will not match his wages to Lionel Messi’s.

Earlier this season Messi signed a new contract at Barcelona worth a staggering £88m (€100m) a year.

Leaked details of the deal show he is paid around €2m each week, 70 per cent of which is form wages and the remainder from image rights.

Ronaldo is said to be unhappy that his contract, signed in November 2016, pales into insignificance compared to Messi.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner is said to be ready to leave Spain and the soap opera surround him and Barcelona's talisman.

And a switch to United appeals – even though the Red Devils are unlikely to be able to offer pay parity with Messi.
