CONFIRMED: Barcelona suffer injury blow in midfield ahead of Chelsea clash
La Liga leaders Barcelona have confirmed that they will be without the services of their midfielder Denis Suarez for the next two to three weeks. The youngster picked up an injury during their win over Espanyol in the Supercopa de Catalunya on Wednesday.
The midfielder is said to have suffered “an adductor muscle strain to his left leg” and was substituted before halftime in the game. Valverde later clarified that the injury shouldn’t keep the 24-year-old out for long following the game.
However, after further examination, the Catalans officially announced that the former Sevilla man will be on the side lines for the next three weeks. This means that Suarez will miss Barcelona’s crucial Champion League clash against Chelsea in addition to their La Liga games against Malaga and Athletic Bilbao.

This has been a season of frustration for the Galician. Whilst the season looked to be a promising one to begin with Suarez featuring regularly in the first team, his appearances in Barcelona colours have become sporadic of late.
Suarez was in fact an unused substitute in 12 of Barcelona’s previous competitive games. The door though looked to been given a slight jar in the recent weeks with Iniesta’s trouble with fitness and Andre Gomes’ constantly underperforming in the centre of the park.
Suarez was not slated to start the game against Chelsea. However, with doubts over Andres Iniesta and Philippe Coutinho cup-tied, he would have certainly been handy.
