Chelsea News: Potential Conte replacement refuses to rule out Stamford Bridge

In a shocking turn of events, Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner has refused to not rule out a blockbuster summer move to Chelsea. Since taking over at Huddersfield, Wagner has taken the Terriers to England’s top-flight and since arriving, he’s set to secure survival from relegation. That’s a great achievement and his exploits clearly haven’t gone unnoticed.

It’s no secret that Antonio Conte has had problems with the higher-ups at Chelsea. In fact, the Italian believes that officials at the club have bought players without his approval, thus forcing him to manage a squad he didn’t want. And the 48-year-old has not shied away from that speculation, constantly showing his discontent. That’s why the Blues sit fifth in the league, an unprecedented 27 points behind the champions, Manchester City.

In his pre-match press conference, the German was asked about managerial links to Chelsea and Frankfurt, replied:

“Chelsea and Frankfurt interest? Of course, I hear and take it for granted.”

However, the 46-year-old was quick to bring the focus back to his current employers and the respect he has for them.

“But I want to achieve Premier League safety first, then talk to owner Dean Hoyle and then maybe look at what options are still there.”

“I speak over every decision with the owners of our team – We have experienced a lot of memorable moments together, we respect and support each other.”

It’s clear that Wagner respects the club as they gave him a chance when no one else would. Now, he could be faced with the biggest decision of his career.

The Terriers travel to Stamford Bridge in two weeks’ time, after first facing Everton and Manchester City. As things stand, Huddersfield sit six points clear of the relegation zone with four games to go. Achieving Premier League safety would be a remarkable feat for Huddersfield especially when you consider their humble beginnings.
