Brighton Makes History with Ajax Victory

Brighton achieved a historic milestone by winning their first European game, defeating the beleaguered Dutch giants Ajax with a comfortable 2-0 victory in the Europa League. The Seagulls, who had previously experienced a loss and a draw in their first two games, breathed life into their debut European campaign with goals from Joao Pedro and Ansu Fati.

The victory over Ajax, a 36-time Dutch champion, was somewhat expected, as the Amsterdam side is currently without a manager and struggling with poor form. Ajax, a four-time European Cup winner, has won just two of its 12 games in all competitions this season and is sitting second-bottom in the Eredivisie.

Brighton capitalized on Ajax’s disarray, dominating the game at the Amex Stadium. They took the lead in the 42nd minute when Joao Pedro scored from a rebound after Kaoru Mitoma’s shot was saved. The Seagulls extended their lead in the second half, with Ansu Fati calmly slotting home a clever pass from Simon Adingra.

Ajax had a tough time, managing only one shot on target during the match. Former Brighton striker Sam Baldock noted that Ajax appeared unrecognizable and questioned their status as a European powerhouse.

This victory has placed Brighton on equal points with second-place AEK Athens in Group B of the Europa League, with the French side Marseille leading the table by a point after defeating AEK Athens 3-1.

Brighton’s landmark European win marks a significant moment in the club’s history, and their performance has put them in contention in the group as they aim to advance in the competition.
