Barcelona Transfer Rumour: Spanish champions looking to offload Yerry Mina, six months after signing
When Barcelona made two signings in the January transfer window, the second one hardly attracted any attention. Philippe Coutinho’s huge price tag clouds the fact that even Yerry Mina was signed by the Spanish champions this January.
Mina arrived at the Catalan club amid much fanfare, with a significant moment being him taking off his boots before laying his feet at Camp Nou for the first time.
The Colombian has actually become as of the fan-favorites due to his humble nature, and simplistic behaviour. However, things may change rapidly for the young lad as Barcelona are said to be on the lookout to offload him this summer so that they can vacate a non-EU spot in their squad according to Spanish publication Sport.
The impending arrival of Arthur from Gremio means that the club would have to let go off one of the non-EU players and Mina seems to have become the casualty for the cause.
Moreover, the Colombian lad had issues adapting to the European style of play and was prone to quite a few errors in the second half of the season.
One of the most eye-catching amongst them was in the game against Levante. Mina was culpable of defensive errors in the game that led to end of Barcelona’s unbeaten streak on the last day of the La Liga season.
Where would Mina be going?
There has reportedly been interest from some Premier League clubs, who want to sign him on a permanent basis but Barcelona are believed to not be interested in the same.
They have faith in the potential of the youngster and hence they are not looking to sell him outright. Instead, the Catalans are looking for a club that could sign the lad up on a loan deal – something that would ensure that Mina continues his progress away from the limelight.
Real Betis are reported to be interested and a loan move to the Basque side is something that should be beneficial for him; considering that 23-year-old would be staying in the same league as his parent club.
The former Palmeiras man’s future is likely to be decided when he returns back from his international duty for Colombia in the World Cup.
