Barcelona Transfer Rumour: Chelsea looking to bring in Jasper Cillessen as Thibaut Courtois replacement
- Updated: July 27, 2018
Chelsea’s hunt for a goalkeeper has taken them to Barcelona. The Blues are reportedly looking to sign Jasper Cillessen this summer as a replacement for Thibaut Courtois.
Barcelona are said to be open to the sale of their Dutch goalkeeper as he has not managed to challenge Ter Stegen for the #1 spot. The Catalan side are looking for €40 million – somewhat around the same amount, Chelsea are selling their Belgian goalkeeper for.
Reports suggest that Chelsea will be making a move for Cillessen in the coming days. Maurizio Sarri is desperate to get the situation resolved as the Premier League season is just a few days away.
Chelsea will be left with just Rob Green and Willy Caballero once Courtois leaves this summer.
Real Madrid are in advanced talks with Chelsea for Courtois and are set to seal the deal soon. The Blues tried their best to keep him at the club, but the goalkeeper was keen on moving to Madrid as his children were staying there. His contract is up next summer and Chelsea are not willing to let him leave for free.
Cillessen isn’t the only keeper Chelsea have been linked with this summer. The reports claim that the Blues have made inquiries for Gigi Donnarumma, Jack Butland, Jordan Pickford and also Alphonse Areola.
Maurizio Sarri has also asked the London side to look at Pepe Reina. The former Liverpool keeper was his #1 at Napoli and has just joined AC Milan. His contract at the Naples club expired at the end of the season and joined the Rossoneri on a free transfer.
Liverpool’s Alisson was also a target for Chelsea when he was at AS Roma. The Brazilian joined the Reds for a World Record fee – something Chelsea were not willing to meet.
