Barcelona Transfer Rumour: Arsenal looking to sign Andre Gomes
Arsenal are keen on signing Barcelona midfielder, Andre Gomes this summer according to ESPN. The 24-year-old joined from Valencia two years ago but has failed to make an impact at Camp Nou.
The Catalan side paid an initial fee of €35 million for him and will be looking to sell him for a lot more.
He was one of the stars at EURO 2016 for Portugal but his lacklustre performances leading to a lack of game time saw him not even make the World Cup squad. He made just six starts in La Liga last season with Valverde only picking him when he wanted to rest Iniesta.
Valencia have already confirmed that they are interested in taking Gomes back on loan, but the Spanish champions are only looking to sell him. The Portuguese will not be keen on remaining at Camp Nou as well as he knows that there is no future for him at the club.
Arsenal are not the only club interested in signing him on a permanent deal as per reports. ESPN claim that the Catalan side have received enquiries from various clubs in England, Italy and Spain.
Gomes is a prime target for Unai Emery, and he asked the Arsenal head of recruitment, Sven Mislintat and head of football relations Raul Sanllehi to get a deal done.
Arsenal have released Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla from their books this summer and are looking to add fresh talent. Gomes will be seen as a direct replacement for one of the two departed midfielders.
Cazorla has returned to Villarreal for the summer and will be joining them based on his fitness. Wilshere is said to be still looking for club with West Ham United and Fenerbahçe fighting for his signature.
Apart from Gomes, Arsenal are also looking to sign Lucas Torreira. A deal for the Uruguayan midfielder is said to be on the cards with the transfer materialising after the World Cup.
