Barcelona News: La Liga president wants to ban Barca star for ‘cheating’
Barcelona star Luis Suarez could be headed for troubled waters in the coming days after the forward allegedly tried to pick up a deliberate booking to ensure that he would not miss a crucial game for the La Liga leaders.
The incident took place during the closing minutes of Barca’s last game when the Uruguayan tried to get himself into the referee’s book by pulling and pushing his opponent in the last few seconds of the game.
With Barcelona up 6-1 at that point of time and the ball in midfielder to get into a tussle. The controversial forward, however, looked to get involved a little too harshly on the proceeding to ensure that he could get himself suspended for the Catalan’s next game against Las Palmas – before returning for their crucial game against Atletico Madrid in the next Gameweek.
These theatrics didn’t go down well with most football fans and their views were reciprocated in the voice of La Liga president Javier Tebas – who wants Suarez to be handed a punishment for the act.
“Luis Suarez should be punished for intentionally looking for a ban,” Tebas told Cadena Ser.
“Had he received his fifth yellow he would then be cleared to play in a crucial game, but that is not something we want in this league.
“I will do everything that I can to keep cheating and deceit out of football, out of La Liga – that is what we must aim to do.”
The La Liga chief also came down hard on Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola who was seen wearing a yellow ribbon on his coat in support of Catalonian independence.
“Pep Guardiola? He must be punished for his ideas (to wear a yellow ribbon) – football and politics should not mix,” Tebas concluded.
