Amir Cup 2020 Schedule Released Defending Champions Al Duhail to face Muaither

The previous winners of the Amir Cup, Al Duhail, will be opening their campaign versus Muaither, the Second Division football team, in the 2020 edition. The Round of 16 draw has already taken place in the presence of key officials of the QFA (Qatar Football Association) including the President of the QFA, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed al-Thani and participating clubs in the tournament.

Al Sailiya will be facing Umm Salal while Al Shahania will be competing against Al Wakrah. Al Ahli will be competing with Qatar SC while Al Arabi will be competing with Al Khor. Al Gharafa will be competing with Al Markhiya. The Amir Cup 2019 had witnessed an exciting final between Al Sadd and Al Duhail which the latter won 4-0. Al Arabi are gearing up to win the title this time under coach Heimir Hallgrimsson, who has stated that in spite of playing well, the team could only eke out draws in both games against Al Khor and hence it knows that a tough match awaits them in the tournament. He highlighted his defensive unit which has played 3 months without losing any match.
Al Rayyan last won the Amir Cup in the year 2013 and under Diego Aguirre, is hoping for another victory. Aguirre has stated that the Amir Cup 2020 remains a major target for the team. Some of the marquee players expected to take part in the Amir Cup 2020 include Edmilson Junior Paolo and Youssef Mesakini from Al Duhail, Gabriel Mercado, Yacine Brahimi and Rodrigo Tabata from Al Rayyan and Akram Afif and Baghdad Bounedjah from Al Sadd.

Matches will be played in the knockout format. Whoever will win the match will get to the next round, and if any match ends with a draw than competing teams will resort to a penalty shootout to determine the winner.
