Aleksandr Golovin joins Monaco

AS Monaco have completed the signing of Alexandr Golovin from CSKA Moscow for an undisclosed fee. As per his contract, the midfielder has penned a five-year deal. 'I am very happy to sign at AS Monaco,' the midfielder admitted.

'This is a new adventure for me that I approach with a lot of ambitions. I am now very much looking forward to meeting the staff and my new teammates and to get going,' he added.

Golovin has already earned 23 caps for Russia and featured in 113 matches for CSKA Moscow.

His inspiring World Cup performances helped his side enjoy a dream run against all odds, which in-turn alerted many a club in Europe, mainly Chelsea. The Blues handed the thinking cap to Maurizio Sarri, who stated that his midfield needed a ‘pinch of quality.’ They were linked with him for quite some time but were unable to get going in terms of placing formal bids.

However, it was a late bid placed by Monaco that lured the 22-year-old to France. Les Monégasques’ vice-president Vadim Vasilyev explained the competition his team faced, “Despite the competition of very large European clubs, Aleksandr has chosen the sporting project of AS Monaco, which will offer him the best conditions to continue his progress.”

Praising Golovin’s abilities, Vasilyev said, 'We are very happy with the arrival of Aleksandr Golovin at AS Monaco. He is a talented young player, very prominent during the World Cup, but we have been following him for a long time. He already has solid experience in Russian first division and internationally.”

AS Monaco begin their Ligue 1 campaign against Nantes on the 11th of August.

AS Monaco could be the right place for Golovin, who is just 22 and has many successful years ahead of him. His creativity and maturity will be best used in Monaco’s free-flowing style of play. Definitely, he will be provided the licence to create openings and advance forward. Hence, this is a fantastic swoop by Leonardo Jardim.
