Ajax’s Justin Kluivert: Manchester United summer transfer unlikely

Ajax forward Justin Kluivert said he has not spoken with Jose Mourinho and believes it is unlikely that he will move to Manchester United this summer.

The 18-year-old, who has scored five goals in 18 Eredivisie appearances for Ajax this season, has been frequently linked with a move to Old Trafford.

But he said on RTL 7's Voetbal Inside programme that he believes that the chance of such a transfer is not very big.

'There will always be rumours, but not all is true,' Kluivert said. 'I know as little as you guys do.'

United defeated Ajax in the UEFA Europa League final last May and Mourinho was seen speaking to Kluivert after the game, which United won 2-0.

It was then that Mourinho reportedly told Kluivert that he was interested in bringing him to Manchester, but Kluivert denied that discussion.

'I get that question a lot of course, but he did not say anything like that in the last match against United,' Kluivert added.

Kluivert's father, Patrick, came up through the youth system at Ajax and played three years for the first team in the mid-1990s before moving onto AC Milan and then Barcelona.

Justin Kluivert has said in the past that he hopes to emulate his father's career — but moving on to another club is something that he doesn't seem ready to do just yet.

That may be because his contract with Ajax expires at the end of the 2018-19 season, shortly after he turns 20.

'There are always rumours,' Kluivert said. 'We all know that. Manchester has never come into the picture and it also is not a logical move.'
