Fortnite Summer Smash to take place at the Australian Open.

The Australian Open has announced that Fortnite will be coming to the games. The Australian Open will take place from the 14th of January till the 27th of the same month. 100 personalities from sports, entertainment and the gaming world will take part in a Pro-Am duos tournament. The Fortnite tournament will have total money of $500,000 in prize money and charitable donations.

Fortnite is a global phenomenon, and we’re excited to host the Grand Slam of competitive gaming events at the Australian Open in January. We’re proud of our reputation for delivering world-class events and are always looking at new opportunities to reach more people. The Fortnite Summer Smash at the Australian Open will see some of the best gamers from around the country do battle just hours before the world’s best male tennis players compete for the AO title.

Epic co-founder Mark Rein was also excited with the addition of Fortnite to the Tennis event. It is a big step forward for the Fortnite and gaming, in general, to be featured at the Australian Open.

Top Personalities will attend the Fortnite Summer Smash.

Kathleen “Loserfruit” Belsten will be attending the Fortnite Summer Smash. She is one of the largest content creators. There will also be other well-known Fortnite players attending the event such as Lachlan, Muselk, Lazarbeam and MrFreshAsian.

I played heaps of tennis growing up and the fact we get to play my favourite game now, Fortnite, at the home of my childhood favourite game is ridiculous but I’m going with it.

The Prize Distribution

The total money for the event, a whopping $500,000 will see the following distribution.

Solos:

  • 1st place        $100,000
  • 2nd-3rd place        $50,000
  • 4th-6th place        $25,000
  • 7th-10th place        $5,000
  • 11th-15th place    $3,000
  • 16th-20th place     $2,000
  • 21st-100th place     $1,000

Duos:

  • 1st place        $50,000
  • 2nd-3rd place        $20,000
  • 4th place        $10,000
