Tainted Cameron Bancroft returns to Big Bash after ball-tampering ban expires

Australian batsman Cameron Bancroft has returned to cricket, rushing back into the Perth Scorchers’ squad in the ongoing Big Bash T20 league following the end of his ban for ball-tampering.

Bancroft was handed a 9-month ban from international and domestic cricket by Cricket Australia for his hand in the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town. Bancroft was caught by television cameras using a small piece of sandpaper to alter the conditions of the ball. While Bancroft executed the plan, captain and vice-captain Steven Smith and David Warner were handed 12 month bans for being the architects of the plot.

“Thank you to every person, group, team and community I have come across over the last 9 months. You know who you are” Bancroft said.

Bancroft is now expected to return against Hobart Hurricanes on Sunday, while Smith and Warner remain suspended and are expected to return by the end of March.
