- Updated: November 19, 2019
The Super League stage of the Abu Dhabi T10 League kicked off on Tuesday with three back to back matches. While just the four teams played against each other in the group stage, the league stage will see all the team play against each other.
Here’s how the three matches panned out on Day 5 of the competition.
Match 13: Deccan Gladiators vs Qalandars
Afghanistan wicketkeeper-batsman starred with the bat as he scored 57 off 21 balls to help the Deccan Gladiators post 128/4 in their 10 overs. This happened after Qalandars skipper Dawid Malan won the toss and elected to bowl first. Shahzad, Shane Watson (30) and Ben Cutting (21) did the scoring as the Qalandars bowlers had to bear the brunt of some power-hitting. Shahzad especially was brutal in his innings hitting as many as six sixes in his knock. He was also awarded the Man of the Match for his splendid knock.
It was going to be always a tough chase for the Qalandars and it turned out to be that way. They lost the openers early and although skipper Malan scored an unbeaten 49, his team ended on 104/2 in their 10 overs, losing the game by 24 runs. The Gladiators with this win registered their third victory in their last four games.
Match 14: Delhi Bulls vs Northern Warriors
In the second match of the night, the Warriors registered an easy victory over the Bulls courtesy Nicholas Pooran’s unbeaten 56. Cameos of 22 each from Andre Russell and Lendl Simmons ensured that the Warriors chase down the target of 111 required with an over to spare.
Earlier in the game, the Northern Warriors won the toss and elected to bowl first. Despite skipper Eoin Morgan’s 56 off 28 balls, the Bulls could only manage 110/6 from their stipulated 10 overs. Chris Green and Andre Russell picked up five wickets between them to limit their opposition to a below-par total at the end. Pooran for his matchwinning knock for the Warriors was adjudged the Man of the Match.
Match 15: Bangla Tigers vs Team Abu Dhabi
In the final game of the first day of the Super League stage, Team Abu Dhabi lost to Bangla tigers by 27 runs. Chasing 130 to win, Abu Dhabi got a good start. Sri Lankan batsman Avishka Fernando scored a half-century, but apart from him and Luke Wright who scored 20, no other batsmen scored in double digits.
For the Tigers, leggie Qais Ahmed and skipper Thiasara Perera shared five wickets amongst themselves to not give Abu Dhabi any momentum in their chase. At last, the Moeen Ali led team only managed to score 102 for 6 from their 10 overs.
After the first day’s play in the Super League stage, Bangla Tigers top the group with 2 points. Gladiators and Warriors are also on two points each but the Tigers sit above them courtesy of a better run rate (+2.70)
Bulls, Qalandars and Team Abu Dhabi lost their respective first Super League matches.
