Qatar T10 League 2019, Match 1: Pearl Gladiators vs Flying Oryx Preview

The Qatar T10 League 2019 kicks off with the campaign opener between Pearl Gladiators vs Flying Oryx on December 7. The tournament is the second of its kind after Abu Dhabi hosted the first event of the T 10 format recently. It is the second 10-over domestic competition to be approved by the ICC after the Abu Dhabi T10 League. The tournament will be played across 10 days and all the matches will be played at the Asian Town Stadium.

Meanwhile, the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Angelo Mathews who were reportedly to feature in the tournament were not included in the final list of players for the Qatar T10 League 2019. While Mathews is available at the upcoming IPL auctions having set a base price of 2 crores, there is no confirmation about Yuvraj’s availability.

Here’s the preview of the Qatar T10 League 2019 campaign opener.

The Falcon Hunters and the Flying Oryx are both evenly matched up teams. However, the Hunters have the upper hand of having renowned international players in their team. Hashim Amla, Johnson Charles and Salman Butt form the batting core of their side. All three of them richly experienced at the international level should be able to handle the responsibilities with the bat for the team.

They have roped in Tom Abell, a promising rookie all-rounder from England who plays for Somerset. He already has close to 3900 runs with five centuries to his name.

The Hunters have as many as eight players from Qatar’s national cricket team, namely, Iqbal Hussain Chaudhry, Mohammad Rizlan, Kamran Khan, Taimoor Sajjad, Murad Khan, Irshad Umer, Nawaf Pullangadam & Hussain Khan. They are a fairly inexperienced group looking to gain experience when they share the stage with the likes of Amla and Charles.

The Oryx, on the other hand, have two reputed Windies T20 specialists Andre Fletcher and Krishmar Santokie. Fletcher recently displayed his hitting prowess for Bangla Tigers in the T10 League where he formed a formidable pair with Rilee Rossouw. Team Oryx have as many as six players from the Qatar national team. Like their teammates who are playing for the Hunters, the Oryx players are also inexperienced and would look to use the tournament to prosper as cricketers.

Meanwhile, the Qatar Cricket Association has thanked the ICC for legalizing the tournament adding further that this will help Qatar to make its presence felt in the world map of cricket. In a press release Youssef J Al Kuwari, President QCA, said: “Qatar is proud to have been assigned this league by ICC. This will take our country to an international sports arena.”

While the Qatar T10 League 2019 is all about understanding what Qatar will bring to the table as a cricket playing nation, the performance of the icon players and the international players will be in focus as well.
