PSL 2019: AB de Villiers signs up for 4th edition

Former South African international AB de Villiers has confirmed his participation in the upcoming fourth edition of the Pakistan Super League. De Villiers, in a video message, said that he’s eager to be a part of the tournament and can’t wait to join up with his new team.

'Pakistan Super League has grown into one of the top T20 tournaments in the world and I've really enjoyed watching PSL matches in recent years. PSL is a league that has given Pakistan so much to cheer about. I certainly can't wait and I'll see you there,' de Villiers explained.

Chairman of the PCB, Ehsan Mani, also expressed his delight at having secured the services of South Africa’s former captain, stating, 'We are delighted with the signing of de Villiers for Pakistan Super League. He is a modern-day great and he will add immense value to the tournament. His involvement in PSL will also provide great learning opportunities for our youngsters.'

The 34-year-old had announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this year, but maintained that he would be available for selection in various T20 Leagues around the world, including the IPL, where he has already featured in 11 editions.

Arguably the most destructive and innovative batsman in the modern game, de Villiers has astonishing numbers in the shortest format of the game: 6649 runs in 251 T20s at a strike rate of 148 and average of just over 35.

De Villiers did not feature in the PSL in its first three editions, but having observed its success in recent years, has decided to finally grace the league with his presence. Earlier, he had also signed up to be an ambassador of the UAE T20x League.

The next edition of the PSL is set to commence in February 2019.
