IPL 2020 is on the anvil and the auctions witnessed some really explosive purchases that set heads racing as far as fans were concerned. These are the top 5 costliest deals made in the IPL auctions for the 2020 season.

  • Nathan Coulter Nile- Rs. 8 crore

Coulter-Nile went to the Mumbai Indians for a staggering Rs. 8 crore and he has good IPL experience, having played for MI in the year 2013 and also the Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) between 2014-16. He also played for KKR back in 2017. He has 36 wickets to his name in 26 IPL games.

  • Sheldon Cottrell- Rs. 8.50 crore

Kings XI Punjab snapped up Sheldon Cottrell for a whopping Rs. 8.50 crore and the West Indian left-arm fast bowler will be playing IPL for the very first time. He had a base price of Rs. 50 lakh at the auctions. Rajasthan Royals and KXIP engaged in a bidding war for the pacer but the latter won eventually. Cottrell has played well for his team recently and has 117 wickets in 83 T20 games with 30 wickets in 22 T20Is till now.

  • Chris Morris- Rs. 10 crore

Chris Morris is known to be a reliable all-rounder and was snapped up for this hefty amount by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) who engaged in a bidding war with Rajasthan Royals and KXIP as well. Morris played IPL for CSK (Chennai Super Kings) in 2013 followed by a stint with RR and Delhi between 2016-19. He has 61 IPL games with 69 wickets and 517 runs to his name.

  • Glenn Maxwell- Rs. 10.75 crore

The Big Show garnered a huge Rs. 10.75 crore as his final contract from Kings XI Punjab who fended off Delhi Capitals to get his signature. Maxwell has previously played for the Delhi franchise in IPL 2012 and for Mumbai Indians in 2013. He has played for KXIP between 2014-17 and for Delhi in 2018. He did not play last season’s IPL due to preparations for the ICC 2019 World Cup. Maxwell has a 161.13 strike rate in 69 IPL games with 1,397 runs under his belt and has also taken 16 wickets. He has the Most Valuable Player of IPL 2014, helping KXIP finish as the runners-up.

  • Pat Cummins- Rs. 15.50 crore

Kolkata Knight Riders engaged in an exciting bidding war with RCB for finally getting Cummins for a considerable Rs. 15.50 crore. Cummins has previously played for Delhi Daredevils in IPL 2017 and also for KKR in IPL 2014-15. He has 17 wickets in 16 IPL matches and is one of the most exciting global cricketers at the moment.
